The
Strong Voice for Riccarton/Wigram
Helen Broughton
The
Councillor With Buzz
“I am absolutely committed to improved
urban and financial planning and action on local
issues.
Council must continue to rein in rate increases and protect our
access to pure water.”
Advocate for Residents
Helen will fight for better urban planning in a ward under pressure
from development.
She is determined to lay the foundations for improved residential
living, while protecting the natural environment of the Port
Hills.
Helen Broughton is a staunch campaigner for a quality
residential environment.
She has for example:
• Initiated bans on heavy through traffic in residential areas
• Worked with residents for resolution of Ruapuna noise issues
• Banned "boy racers" from certain streets
and helped achieve:
• Area Plan for Southwest
• Controls on Urban Sprawl (Plan change 1)
• Southern Arterial Route (and extension)

• Henderson – challenged purchases and
buyback provisions.
• Opposed Council financing an Arts Centre
Music School.

2007) – decision was
for
• incoming Council.
Riccarton/Wigram
needs a strong advocate to represent your interests.
Accessible, Honest, Effective
“What I Say – I Will Do.”
Focus for Change
Since 2004 Council has chosen to work mainly without committees,
the standard model for local authorities.
“I have real concern many major
decisions are not receiving sufficient scrutiny or public input."
Helen believes Council must
reinstate committees for two-step decision making:
•
More considered decision making
• Improved public participation
• Greater transparency
“Our current approach must change, to
restore public confidence in Council.”
“I'm not here to
rubber stamp!”
